Is there a fantasy animal that you wish was real? I am a Gen X baby, and I immediately knew what my answer would be when I read this question! What is yours?

Long and Short Reviews have been doing a Blog hop all year on Wednesdays! My good friend over at DV Walking Wounded clued me in on the fun, and I decided to join in for the rest of the year. So every Wednesday, they have a topic, and each blogger who participates writes a post. Readers can go to the Long and Short Reviews page, see all the blogs, and read everyone’s different posts! It is a great idea!

This week's topic is: Fantasy Animal You Wish Was Real.

The year 1984, I was eleven years old. I was told I was obsessed with the hit movie The Neverending Story. I have blocked childhood memories, so I will fast forward.

I watched this movie as an adult, and to be honest, it whisked me away, and I remembered parts of it as I watched. That excited me. I do not have good memories, so something positive really made me smile!

I know most of the Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is about books. The Neverending Story is based on a book written by Michael Ende.

According to Wikipedia, The film markers used only the 1st part of the book for the first film and roughly used other sections for the other two movies. I must be honest; I seriously want to read this book now!

So there are SOOOOOO many characters in this movie to fall in love with!!

Falkor, the Luck Dragon, is the one who has stolen my heart, though. I loved every scene he was in, especially at the end when he was buzzing through the streets chasing those bully kids.

"Never give up, and good luck will find you."

Falkor was wise and gentle and valued friendship. After Atreyu loses his beloved horse Artax in the Swamps of Sadness, he finds friendship again in Falkor.

There are plushies on Amazon and other stores of Falkor the luck dragon!

According to Keysearch (where I do my keyword research), “Falkor the Luck Dragon” is still interesting all these years later, with over 40,000 views and a high difficulty rating! The lowest Domain ranking for “Falkor the Luck Dragon” is 62!

It is fascinating to me that a character has that many views after 38 years! He has truly stood the test of time!

So, who do you think is the most searched character from the movie? These numbers are according to the Keyword research tool Keysearch pulled up on 10/12/2022

Bastian 49,500
Atreyu 49, 500
The Childlike Empress 3600
Falkor the Luck Dragon 40,500
The Rock Biter 1600

I have such a smile thinking of this sweet fantasy animal that I would love to be real! I can imagine myself as the child empress flying with Falkor over all of my kingdom Fantasia and stopping to wave at the rock biters! (I had to add them because they were a favorite too!)

And they lived happily ever after!

This movie is a part of my heart! I wasn’t as young as you when I saw it but it still captivated me and I have it on CD (as well as the soundtrack). Falkor was definitely one of my favorite characters. Atreyu was probably my most favorite, though. So brave and so cute! For which fantasy animal I would want to be real, it would be dragons. Hands down. But, not the huge ones. Pocket dragons. The ones designed by Real Musgrave. I’ve even been working on a cross stitch pattern of one of his dragons for years. (It’s on black cloth and really hard on my eyes.) Thanks for such an entertaining and heartwarming post!
