BLOG HOP What Makes You Pick Up or Buy a Book?

Long and Short Reviews have been doing a Blog hop all year on Wednesdays! My good friend over at DV Walking Wounded clued me in on the fun, and I decided to join in for the rest of the year. So every Wednesday, they have a topic, and each blogger who participates writes a post. Readers can go to the Long and Short Reviews page, see all the blogs, and read everyone’s different posts! It is a great idea!

This week’s topic is What makes you pick up or buy a book?

First off, I love to read! I used to have stacks and stacks of books everywhere! They were always various books based on whatever was going on in my life then. When I was learning to crochet, I bought tons of stitch books and dictionaries for crochet. I am always reading Christian-based books, like devotions or Bible Studies. When I first moved into our old house with the huge kitchen, I wanted different cookbooks. You could always tell my phase of life by the books cluttered all over! Now I have a small apartment and have donated most of my books. I have a rather large collection on my Amazon Kindle.

One author has remained with me for most of my life. Iris Johansen, this is her personal Bio from her Website

Johansen began writing after her children left home for college. She first achieved success in the early 1980s writing category romances. In 1991, Johansen began writing suspense historical romance novels, starting with the publication of The Wind Dancer. In 1996 Johansen switched genres, turning to crime fiction, with which she has had great success. She now has over 30 consecutive New York Times bestsellers.

She has an excellent series that falls under the crime fiction I followed from the first book! Her main character is Eve Duncan. She is a forensic sculptor whose daughter was abducted. She spent her life helping reconstruct skulls in the hope of bringing the lost back to their families. The series is fantastic! So the first reason I would have for buying a book is that my favorite author has published another one! I always know when a new one is coming out, and I try to buy it on release day.

There are other reasons why I would pick a book. If I were blessed to walk through Barnes and Noble (I’m not allowed in that store, especially with a credit card! Just kidding), I would like to look for the genres that interest me right off. I almost always choose crime fiction or suspense. I then look for authors I have read before to check for new releases. Lastly, I just randomly start picking up books and reading the back of them until I find something that gets me interested. The last step is another reason I am banned from Barnes and Noble because I want to read the back of MANY books; whoever is with me is not happy to stand around while I do this.

So this is my first post for the Blog hop; now I want to ask my readers, why do you pick a book to buy? Tell me in the comments which is your favorite author and what genre they are in!

Please share my post on social media and ask your friends what they read.

  1. Barnes & Noble is my favorite store also. I too spend hours in the store, so I go alone. I often have to self ground myself from the store. Lol. Dani, you and I will have to go one day. Miss you. ♥️
