The meaning of live by Faith, a look at Bible verses and simple practices to show your Trust, Faith, and Confidence in God and His Salvation

Fundamentals You Need To Know To Live By Faith

I have been a Christian most of my life. There are certain words and phrases you hear all the time, from Sunday school to Wednesday night to the main church on Sunday. Have you ever just taken those words for granted that you understand the meaning?

I will be honest I have! Growing up, my Grandpa was a Baptist Minister, so things like “Walking in the Spirit” and “Live in Faith” are all everyday around-the-house conversations. I never really stopped to think of their meanings because I just thought I knew.

Live by Faith

I recently saw the words “live by faith” and actually stopped and thought what?!? Do I really live by Faith? How do I know if I don’t understand what that means? I am being truthful here when I say I really don’t have a grasp on living by Faith.

What is the best way to find out? Go to Scripture! God’s Word is always the number one way to find the answer. I am a modern girl who honestly doesn’t pick up my actual Bible all the time, but I am in the Word digitally. I love to ask Google, and one of my favorite sites for reading the Bible is BibleGateway.

Galatians 2:20

The first verse I come across when I am searching about Faith is

The New King James Version 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by Faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

This is how I interpret that verse.
Paul is saying Jesus died, and I passed with Him. He is alive inside of me, and while I am in the flesh (meaning alive), I will trust and believe in Jesus, who loves me and died for me.

I am not a teacher of the Bible, so my thoughts might not be totally correct. I pray and ask God to guide me when I look for answers. I usually never stop at one verse or viewpoint because people can interpret the Bible in many ways.

Hebrews 11:6 ESV

Hebrews 11:6 ESV

And without Faith, it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.

This verse made me stop! “Without Faith, it is impossible to please Him.”

Now I must find the true meaning of living by Faith because I definitely want to please God with my life and heart.

My thoughts on Hebrews 11:6 is

God wants you to come close to Him and Believe that He exists; you need Faith to do that and to please Him.

faith /fāTH/ noun 1. complete Trust or confidence in someone or something.

Ok, I am feeling better because I DO entirely trust God, but I think living by Faith is more than just the word Faith. Living by Faith, to me, is more sounding like actions. So what can I do to live by Faith?

Choose to Believe and Trust in God

Trusting that God is the creator of the entire universe is a decision on your part. You choose to accept the gift of salvation by asking Jesus into your heart and believing that He is the Christ, and you decide to confess your sins and sin no more.

God offers salvation. We decide if we want to have that gift. He does not force us into that decision, so I think living by Faith would also be a choice.

The Act of Trust

You trust that God hears you and will answer your prayers when you pray; otherwise, why would you pray? I am not going to talk to someone who isn’t going to hear me or listen. God wants your relationship, so He wants to hear from you.

You trust God when you read the Bible. He says in His Word that the Bible is true. According to The English Standard Version of 2, Timothy 3:16-17 reads, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

What You Say

God loves when we repeat or proclaim His promises. His promises and all the prophecies have been made! Every word of the old testament has come to pass. So by speaking His words, you are speaking the truth.

God wants you to receive his promises and claim them for your life. One of my favorite verses is

Evening and morning and at noon I will pray and cry aloud, And He shall hear my voice

God is promising He will hear us. as mentioned above, God hears our prayers, and there is His promise to us about it.

I can say it just like this “God. I love You, and Thank you for listening to me. I open my heart to You and pour it out before You. I trust Your promise spoke in Psalm 55:17 that You will hear me.”

Proverbs 16:24 “Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.” this refers to HOW you should speak.

Giving Thanks in all Circumstances

When you can thank God for all things (good or bad), you live by Faith. You have Faith that God will take care of you even when things are not going as you want them to.

God promises us that everything is for our good

And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. – Romans 8:28 (NIV)

We must be confident that He knows what is best for us, and we show our Faith when we thank Him.

Conclusion

So we Choose to Believe, Trust, Speak and give Thanks for living by Faith! I have learned a great deal by looking into God’s Word. I also enjoyed an article by one of my favorites, Joyce Meyers, Living by Faith. I always enjoy her teachings.

My Prayer to Live by Faith

Father God, I want to please You by living by Faith! I thank you for everything going on in my life; I know they are all for my good. I have chosen to receive Your most precious Gift of my salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ, and I believe in Him wholeheartedly. Please guard my mouth that I use it to bring You glory and to claim Your promises in my life. I love you! In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen

  1. Hi Danielle, I enjoyed this post as I’m also a Christian and I blog about mental health, among other things. Thank you for sharing your faith journey with us. I often say I live by faith, but sometimes I find myself doubting. My prayer is that I will come to believe that everything is working for my good and therefore, I have no need to worry or doubt.
